Change is Good
The good thing about being able to design your life is that change is easy and it is good. The reaction of most of the other teachers that I worked with upon hearing that my Work Visa had been revoked was rage and anger (not just from Americans either, actually there was not any Americans there at all except me and my wife). To both me and my wife we instantly realized that it was a great opportunity.
We have worked together for the last two years to set ourselves up to be able to accept opportunities as they arise. We were tired of seeing not just our opportunities, but others opportunities, pass by because of fear of not having a job, because of fear of losing a job, fear of moving to a new location, or fear of losing control.
What we have found instead is that it is far more liberating to not have a job. Sure we work but the work that we do is to gain something. We worked in Taipei to be able to explore and experience Taiwan.
If you set yourself up so that you do work that will lead you to the next good experience things begin to come much more easily for you. Everyone knows the saying “the rich get richer” well guess what…it is true. But it is because they have set themselves up so that they can get richer. They have businesses, and income that brings in money for them.
We have also found that rich sometimes does not mean money. You could be rich in time, rich in experience, rich in life.
We feel that we are rich in life. We are getting rich in experience. I am now setting up my life to be rich in time. With these working for us, being rich in money begins to be less and less important.
But reducing an importance on money does a funny thing. We find that we fall into more money. That it lands in our lap. We become rich through the ability to have experiences, to have time to take advantage of opportunities, and to live our life the way we want to live it, not the way that our job, or our boss tells us to live it.
Life is good, and it is getting better all the time.
